The fruit share is comprised of fruit grown at Free Bird Farm as well as partner farms and orchards in the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys. This allows us to offer the widest representation of NY-grown fruit as it comes into season. Depending on season availability, a week’s fruit share may consist of just one type of fruit, such as a bag of apples, or two, such as a pint of blueberries and a bag of peaches. In fall, there could be a week with three fruit types (i.e. grapes, pears and cantaloupe). Early in the season there may be one or two weeks when there is no fruit available.
This is the general schedule for which fruit is available:
- Mid to late June: strawberries
- July: blueberries, peaches, plums, nectarines
- Aug: high-bush Adirondack blueberries, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, plums, melons
- September: melons, apples, pears, grapes, fall raspberries
- Oct: apples, pears
Some but not all of the fruit sourced is certified organic.
